Founder & Principal Ghostwriter

Eleanor Voss

Eleanor founded Story & Sterling after more than a decade writing books for entrepreneurs, executives, and first-time authors who had a story worth telling but no time to write it themselves. She's ghostwritten across memoir, business, and narrative nonfiction, and started the agency to give authors the full team a serious book deserves — not just a single freelancer. She still personally reviews every manuscript before it reaches a client.

Managing Executive Editor

Marcus Bellweather

Marcus spent years editing for traditional publishing houses before moving into agency work, overseeing editorial quality across every genre Story & Sterling touches. He's especially drawn to structural editing — helping a manuscript find its shape before a single line is polished. He leads the editorial team and signs off on every book before it's considered client-ready.

Executive Editor

Whitney Carter

Whitney's background is in acquisitions, where she developed an eye for what makes a manuscript stand out to agents and readers alike. She specializes in positioning — helping authors sharpen the angle and audience of their book long before it goes to market. Clients often bring her in early, when a project is still finding its shape.

Client Stories

Trusted by authors with a story to tell.

Story & Sterling took twenty years of stories I never thought I could put on paper and turned them into a book I'm prouder of than anything else I've built.

FAQ

Ghostwriting questions, answered.

What should I consider when choosing a ghostwriter?

Pricing structure, who owns the rights to the finished manuscript, how much creative control you'll retain, and whether you're working with an individual freelancer or a full editorial team all matter. We're happy to walk through each of these on a consultation call.

What does the ghostwriting process typically look like?

Most projects follow the nine stages outlined above, from a free consultation through final editorial revisions and publishing navigation — though we tailor the process to your book and timeline.

Do I have to use every service in a package?

No. If you don't need beta reader testing or publishing navigation, for example, we'll scope and price the engagement around only what you need.

Will the ghostwriter be credited, or am I the sole author?

You retain full public credit as the author. Ghostwriting engagements are confidential by default, and we're glad to sign an NDA before any work begins.

How long does it take to ghostwrite a book?

A typical 50,000–70,000 word manuscript takes roughly four to nine months, depending on scope and how much source material you already have. Expedited timelines are available.

Is ghostwriting ethical?

Yes. The ideas, stories, and expertise are yours — a ghostwriter simply helps you express them with more craft and structure than you may have time to develop alone.

Can I include material I've already written?

Absolutely. We incorporate existing drafts, notes, interviews, or outlines, which can also reduce the overall cost of the project.

How much involvement will I need to have?

As much or as little as you'd like. Some authors prefer weekly interviews; others hand off detailed notes and review drafts periodically. You always retain final approval.

What if the pairing with my ghostwriter isn't working?

We can adjust the approach or reassign you to a different writer at no additional charge — the goal is a book that sounds like you.

Do you help with publishing once the manuscript is done?

Yes. Depending on your goals, we can pursue traditional publishers and literary agents on your behalf, or guide you through hybrid and self-publishing options.
